Megeve is one of the most beautiful ski resorts in France, steeped in character with a refined personality that has been nurtured by its loyal discerning clientele.  This picturesque alpine town has a long established reputation as a premier ski resort and a particular favourite of the French upper class and European Royalty.  Much of its success is attributed to the influence of the Rothschild family who recognised its undeniable beauty and potential.  The family built one of the early hotels back in 1920 and continues to play a pivotal role in development of the resort.

The heart of the town displays a thirteenth century village atmosphere with narrow cobbled streets limited to pedestrian access only.  Colourful horse-drawn carriages wait here to taxi visitors around the town.  Designer boutiques and French antique shops line the streets attracting visitors eager to browse and succumb to temptation.  When it comes to dining out in Megeve, there’s plenty of choice with wonderful examples of gourmet dining in the town and some highly regarded mountain restaurants too.  Exclusive bars and nightclubs host the après ski with lavish style and the Jazz Club is particularly popular, regularly featuring some of the best international jazz artists.

The skiing in Megeve is suitable for all abilities particularly beginners and intermediates.  Ski runs are a mixture of wide open slopes and pleasant tree lined trails.  The ski resort is made up of 3 ski areas, Mont D’Arbois, Rochebrune and Jaillet.  Although the latter isn’t linked to the other areas, there’s plenty to keep both beginners and intermediates entertained.  The advanced skiers will enjoy the steepness of Mont Joly and the World Cup Downhill run on Cote 2000.  Although Megeve offers some good off-piste skiing, the right ski lift pass can give advanced skiers access to nearby resorts such as Les Contamines and Chamonix, for more challenging adventure.
